Hey,
Just joined the forum. I'm 17 from Illinois. Just got into motorcycling this past summer. I took the MSF BRC a few weeks ago, but have to wait until next spring to get my motorcycle endorsment (18 y.o.). Right now, I'm just reading the boards and books, and saving up some money for equipment etc. I dont have a bike. A friend of mine is letting me use one of his bikes. So I'm planning on hitting it hard next spring and summer. Any tips or advice, let me know.

What bike are you looking to get, and what books have you read so far?

Thanks... I really like the look of my neighbors K75S. I am planning on riding that for next year. I am going to school in the fall and will not have any money to afford one of my own. I have read Proficient Motorcycling, and More Proficient Motorcycling and think that they are both awesome books. I have been reading here for a while, as well as motorcycle usa's forums as well. Both have been a lot of help so far. What do you think about the K75s as a beggining bike. I have ridden nighthawk 250's and other small bikes, but feel like I would outgrow them almost instantly. The K75s is a bigger engine, but still a relatively small (weight) bike. As far as other bikes I have looked at the GS500E, and Ninja 500. Any other suggestions. I like the sporty look, but am not looking to start on an R1 or somethin like that. I also like the look of the nighthawk and stuff like that. I am interested in hearing what you guys think.

Im not at all familar with the k75s, but a quick search in google told me it was a BMW, and it also brought up alot of reviews for the bike also.

There is a sticky up in I think the new bikers forum that talks about beginning bikes, just reading the stickies in that forum, and other parts of the forums is a good idea. A plethora of information!

Both the GS500E and Ninja 500 are perfect for the beginning rider. I enjoy mine greatly. Are you looking for a used bike? You can find both when searching around for a good deal, check out cycletrader and craigslist... ebay, your local classifides... and that usual stuff. Since riding season is coming to a close, or already there (I live in a desert... so I'd have no idea about seasons ) There should not only be a vast sea of bikes being put up for sale, but also should be cheaper to buy a bike, used or new because of the riding weather.

Pretty much Kawasaki, Suzuki, honda, hyosung, and others make excellent beginner bikes so you'll have some options when looking for a starter bike.

I agree, it sounds like you are on the right path. You seem to be taking everything seriously and safely. As a new motorcyclist myself, I have no advice for you, but lots of enthusiasm and suport. I hope you get your wheels soon. Can't wait to hear all your experiences.

Thanks everyone... Hope to be up and running in April, when I turn 18 and am able to transfer my BRC card into a license. I'll be sure to keep you'all informed.
