Valentino Rossi on pole for Valencia MotoGP 2006
Monday, October 30, 2006 - By blue2bikes - sportnetwork.net
Valentino Rossi turned up the gas to take his fifth pole position during qualifying for the final round of the MotoGP, having already broken the lap record. Waiting until the final ten minutes of qualifying, Valentino put in the fastest lap - with Troy Bayliss having a great run taking second place.
Bayliss’ Ducati team-mate Loris Capirossi was in third, and this left Nicky Hayden (Honda) trailing behind Shin’ya Nakano (Kawasaki) and taking up fifth place.
Troy Bayliss, standing in for the injured Sete aboard the Ducati, has proved to be the best stand in for Ducati - especially after his triumphant return to the World Superbike Championship and taking the number 1 plate from Troy Corser. Troy (B) is making a great impression, and will almost certainly figure during the race.
With the two Ducatis in close contention to Valentino’s Yamaha, and Capirossi on form, it will almost certainly be racing at its best. Can Valentino take his eighth title win, and finish the 2006 series being the only man to win the 990cc championship ever?!!!!!!!!
The Valencia circuit is filled to capacity, with all tickets being sold and fans being told to keep away from the circuit if they have not got an entry ticket. A large screen has been erected at the National Motorcycle Show, so visitors will not miss any of the action.
One thing for sure is that whatever the outcome, the world will be watching one of the most fascinating ends to a MotoGP season ever. May the best man win.
Top ten qualifiers:
1 Valentino Rossi
2 Troy Bayliss
3 Loris Capirossi
4 Shin’ya Nakano
5 Nicky Hayden
6 Dani Pedrosa (Honda)
7 Casey Stoner (Honda)
8 Chris Vermeulen (Suzuki)
9 John Hopkins (Suzuki)
10 Colin Edwards (Yamaha)
