Been riding less than 6 moths. However, I am licensed and have taken the MSF course. Which is the better buy the 1996 Kawasaki Virago 535 for $1000.00 or the 2002 Suzuki SV 650 for $2800.00? Also, which would be preferable to learn on and perhaps keep for a couple of years?

the SV650 has the potential to keep you happy for many years. i know some guys that still ride theirs even after years of riding.

535cc seems like a small engine for a cruiser. you'll probably want something bigger earlier.

so since you want something that won't leave you craving earlier... i think the SV would be better.

good luck! :D

Other than 2 wheels and a motor the Virago and SV are worlds apart.

I would go for the SV, unless you want a cruiser, the SV is much sportier and should keep you happy for awhile.

If you want an opinion on the 650, got to http://www.sv-portal.com/forums/ They like to flame and all that, but they really do like their SVs, both the 650 and 1K. And personally I'd go with the SV650, I've heard it was a good beginner bike, plus it's got the power and torque to keep you happy for quite some time, just like Verm said...

Isn't the Virago a Yamaha?
