My bike does X in second gear

#1 Unread post by ChriswithaHawk »

Im sure everyone here has heard it and some have even said it.

ive been a rider for less than a year and i can honestly say i dont know what my nighthawk does in second gear. i dont think my tachometer has ever been in the red.

Am i a sissy? i dont understand why someone would want to rev it up that high. it cant be good for the engine. i want my bike to last me as long as i can. i dont like spending out the anus to have parts ripped off of it and put onto it and i dont like working on it and i know damn well that it rides better in every gear better than it pushes in neutral.

Opinions? comments? :frusty:

nope, you're not a sissy.

you're just being too careful.

hitting the rev limiter is fine... just don't stay on it.

Is this about how high of rpm you can get in 2nd??

Pshh, weenies :P I max out my 2nd gear all the time (ahem, parking lot practice)

I have no tach so I don't know exactly either, but I can hear it. I don't plan on consciously abusing my bike. Though I imagine I am in some way or another.

ChriswithaHawk, it isn't bad for the engine unless you keep the revs near the red for extended periods of time... you get max power up there, thats why people do it.

2nd gear? not fast enough... i want tripple digit in 2nd damnit!

You don't really need to thrash the "lightbulbs" out of your bike to get more than enough performance out of it. Not like it's an RR style bike that makes it's peak HP 500 rpm before redline.

And as to riding a bike sans tach... I really hope honda thumopers like redline cause i smack it all the time on my XR200R. Let's hope that motor is as bullet proof as it seems  Maybe i should actually change the oil in it... nah

lol only about 1200rpm above the CXs redline

I know what mine will do in pretty much every gear.

55 in first, 75 in second, 95 in 3rd, wont bother mentioning the other 3 gears.

thats shifting at 12,000rpm in each gear. If you dont run at redline for extended periods it wont hurt the engine to shift at or near redline.

1st gear is the only one i know for my current bike.

it redlines around 80+mph.

haven't had the chance to redline 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th...

i believe i came close to hitting the redline on 6th when i did 164mph.

Wow, that makes me sad! My bike redlines in 1st at about 28 MPH, 2nd at 35 MPH, 3rd at 40 MPH, 4th at 70 MPH, and 5th at a buck... lol Guess it's a good thing I'm looking for that SV1KS if I wanna go faster...
