Ride 4 Kids at Barabool raises $50,000 for challenge
Monday, November 6, 2006 - Motorcycling Australia - ma.org.au
Around 200 Motocross riders including Australian Motocross Champion Craig ‘Ando’ Anderson came together last weekend at the celebrated Barrabool Motocross track to do something they rarely get a chance to do – ride for the fun of it!
However, there was also a much more important motivation for riders such as Ando, Troy Dorron and Cameron Taylor to get together.
Australia's only charity motocross event is organised each year by the Challenge organisation to support children and families living with cancer, and the professional sportsmen attend solely to “ride for donations.”
According to Event Organiser, Matt Manning, this year’s sixth running of the event, has resulted in Challenge raising approximately $50,000 for the charity.
“It was a tremendous effort by all involved,” he said.
“The highest overall event fundraiser and winner of the awesome Honda donated CRF250 was 18-year-old Ashley Townsend who raised an amazing $9,250!”
Ando was also thrilled to be a part of the proceedings. “We had a great day and I really enjoyed being able to meet some of the kids,” the 2006 Motocross Champion said.
“The strength and determination in these families is really amazing.”
Manning noted the importance of continued corporate and local community support.
“We are so pleased that Honda and the other sponsors including the Sporting Motorcycle Club and Motorcycling Victoria have chosen to support the Ride 4 Kids,” Manning said.
