I am from so cal and was talking to a friend from up north (sacramento) who has been riding for 2 years now. He said that "bike riding in so cal is much more dangerous and difficult compared to nor cal".

He made me feel like I should move to nor cal in order to own and ride a bike. But I want to learn and ride here.

Is my friend right? Any stories/experiences? Help? Thanks.

Anywhere traffic is heavier, there will be more risk associated with riding a bike. As long as you're OK with that risk, ignore your 'friend'.

I get all kinds of "helpful" advice from guys who think that girls need help even if they're out riding on their own. Its easier to just grin and bear it, then do your own thing anyway.

Tell your friend it would be safer for him to walk to work so he should move out of his house and rent an apartment across the street from his office building.

Don't forget he should wear a helmet while walking in case he trips and hits his head on the ground. Afterall it only takes a 3 foot drop to scramble your brains, and I bet he's taller then that.

Forget it. He is doomed. It's well known that the bathroom is the most dangerous room in the house. With most deaths coming from slips in the tub. If he's not wearing his helmet in the shower, he's not long for this world. With all of the overwhelming evidence of bathroom accidents, who would take a helmetless shower?

well you might as well kill him now and save him from all the suffering. Unless he should wear full gear and a helmet to bed. Not to mention two guards watching his every move while he sleeps to make sure he doesn't get a scratch. ohhh can you imagine what would happin! ITS THE APOCALYPSE!! :banging:

I think he's just stating the observation that traffic is different. Don't think much more of it than, "yea, it is" and go from there. Believe me, I'd love to be learning to ride back home instead of here in Japan! But, the upside is I'm not in in a big city with Osaka or Tokyo style traffic. I don't know if I'd wanna try there

The weather is better in Southern California anyway. Just enjoy it.

this is a funny thread

Your friend better not eat anything either...he might choke on something and fall down. Of course if he's wearing the helmet that has been suggested he won't hurt his head when he falls.
