ANNUAL GOOSE RUN SET SATURDAY IN PITTSBURG
Friday, November 10, 2006 - STAFF - Tyler Morning Telegraph - zwire.com

The Second Annual Goose Run is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11, at the old football field located behind the elementary and intermediate schools in Pittsburg, event spokesman Andrew Pack said.

Registration for the fun run is set from 9-11 a.m. Saturday on Tapp Street, next to the police station. Entry fee is $15 per person or $25 per playing couple, to be paid at registration. Cash prizes will be given away to first, second, third and low-hand places.

Participants are asked to park on Tapp Street and walk over to the courthouse lawn for the Veteran's Day program at the memorial, which begins at 11a.m. The Goose Run will start immediately after the ceremony, Pack said.

The Goose Run Benefit is a benefit started in honor of the late Ricky "Goose" Branum, a Vietnam War veteran and motorcycle enthusiast.

"This past July, Goose passed away from his cancer, but asked his friends to keep the game going to remember him," Pack said. "This time around, all the proceeds from the Goose benefit go to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life."

The Goose Run is free and open to the public. Activities will include:

Live bands playing throughout the day, with special guests, the Wes Jeans Band of Marshall.

Chance drawing for a mini-chopper, provided by Dwight's Biker Dream of New Boston, and a utility trailer, donated by Big Tex Trailers.

Horse shoe tournaments, vendors, activities for the kids, and bike games.

Event sponsors are Strube Enterprises, JR's Food Mart-Subway in Dangerfield, Pat Pilgrim Farms, Cummings Dirt Contracting, Pittsburg Gym and Jim Nickerson.
