Hi, I originally got interested in sports bikes after my cousin purchased a ducati this summer. (beautiful machine)

Now I have a few questions, that weren’t directly addressed in the stickies.

I am curious that people recommend an SV650 as a decent beginner bike, as a FZ6 would not. I realize that the SV has less power and more torque, as the FRZ is more rev happy and has more top end power.

And I am not looking for justification to buy a bike from the forum. I am wondering what draws the line between a good and not so good beginner bike.

I am taking the MSF in the spring and start deciding from there on, if I want to commit to buying a bike.
And I've been watching this forum for a while so I know that this is a friendly helpful community that I would not mind joining.

SV650 is a grey area beginners bike (personally I think its a great second bike). HP (some say under 60, some say under 50, some say under 40), torque, weight (low speed/parking lot manuevering ring a bell?), seat height (the shorter the easier for a beginner who isn't keen on a bike's behavior), cost (cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, cheap to fix when you drop or break it) all factor in. A good beginner bike is one that best allows for a new rider to learn skills and control the easiest, fastest and cheapest way possible.

Its your first bike, not your last.

Plus the SV650 is apparently more forgiving to newbies than an I4 bike... It's less twitchy, and does weigh a bit less than most other I4s. Either way, the R6 is definitely an intermediate to advanced bike. Anyway, yeah, join in the other topics, you'll learn a lot from this forum (I have!)

Sorry, you did... I just misread... Anyway, same engine, same basic design, little bit of plastic and hardware missing/moved. Anyway, try for the SV650 at most for a beginner bike. Otherwise the chances are very high that you'll end up in the ICU or Morgue at your local hospital fairly quickly...
