TOPbike to boost toy run charity

Motorcycling magazine, TOPbike will make a generous contribution in the form of 2006 teddy bears to one of South Africa's most significant charity events, and one of Africa's largest motorcycling processions - the Toy Run, which will take place throughout South Africa on 26th November.

Members of the public are invited to adopt a teddy bear by sending an SMS at a cost of R20. The 2006 TOPbike teddy bears, as well as the money collected through the SMS's, will be donated to the Toy Run on 26th November.

Around 6500 Cape-based motorcyclists will converge on Maynardville, in Wynberg via two different routes - from Ratanga Junction and the Pick 'n Pay Hypermarket in Ottery - where riders will hand out thousands of toys to the organisers of the Toy Run Charity.

More than 50 000 motorcyclists in all shapes and sizes, will turn out across the country with toys adorning their bikes, to bring some Christmas cheer to disadvantaged children up to the age of 18 in orphanages, shelters, homes and hospitals.

Now in its 24th year, the Toy Run donates toys to the 122 service organisations in the country, for distribution to needy children. In 2005, 13 600 toys were received in Cape Town alone.

The festivities at Maynardville will include a beer garden, food stalls, displays, motorcycle stalls as well as live music with entertainer, Kurt Schoenraad.

Participants have until 23rd November to SMS their names to 40030 and support this worthy cause. TOPbike will ensure that the teddy bears, and the donated money, reach needy South African children.

"We are excited to be involved in this event and hope the money collected through SMS's and the 2006 teddy bears, in their colourful TOPbike shirts, will be a source of happiness and joy to these needy children during the festive season," said Ian Els, editor of TOPbike.

Rodney Ford, chairman of the Board of the Charity Toy Run trust, says this special gesture by TOPbike will add value to the charity event.
