Another bike advice question

#1 Unread post by t_bonee »

Hi all,

Well the Kawasaki zl600 didn't work out for me. I believe that the motorcycle gods are frowning on me. I guess it must be a sign that there is something better out there to be had.

Anywho, I'm going to look at a 1981 Honda CX500 this weekend. Anyone know anything about these bikes? Are they a good first time bike? Any known issue to look out for on this model?

The price is a hell of a lot cheaper than the zl600 so I may be looking at a "needs love" bike. I guess I'll find out out tomorrow.

Thanks.

Tom,

Just make sure it's in decent shape. Older bikes that have sat for a long time will typically need some work to get them up to par, but if it's been ridden regularly and maintained well the CX 500 is by far one of the most reliable motorcycles ever built.

It just so happens my first bike was a CX 500, and I loved it. Those things are bullet-proof.

That's a very beginner-friendly bike. If it hasn't been abused or neglected you should go for it!
Let me get this straight... it's one down and four up, right?

The CX500 is an excellent bike. If the bike is in good condition you can hardly go wrong. These machines generally provided great service for many miles.
