I just bought the Icon recon pants with aramid reinforced knees and cooling /flex panels. They run small, so I went up one full waist size from my regular jeans. These are 14 ounce denim with sewn-in aramid panels in the knees. They are cut for a riding position, but they are loose fit and still comfortable walking around. At least in the Parts unlimited catalog, they are only available with a 33 inch inseam. The extra length seems to be in the thigh area, so shorter people may need to have them hemmed above the knee panels to align the knees patches correctly.

My first impressions of these pants are very good. They are very heavy, until you put them on. They are very comfortable while riding, and seem to disappear when you move around for cornering, etc. I got the black color, so I'll let you know about fading and temperature on the hot days. The ventilated panels seem to do a good job of flowing air through them , though. Sorry, no intentional crash test to check pout the aramid panels.

How are the pants?

Working out great! Very comfortable, and well ventilated.

Both pants are excellent pants for daily riders, very comfortable and most likely better then jeans, cargos, or slacks.

The Barrier pants are lined with fuzzies which make them more comfortable and better at keeping you warm in the wind.

The Super Duty pants have great pockets and a tough as nails material. These provide great windchill heat loss, but lack the fuzzies on the inside.

Both of these pants are great buys. Don't have leathers yet but don't feel bad about hitting the canyons in them.

I was just looking at some Icon pants a couple of days ago at Moto Liberty in Dallas and noticed that the Kevlar/aramid fabric was a large patch on the knees and a strip several inches wide (maybe 5 or 6 inches?) descending from the waist. I didn't even bother trying them on since the Draggin' Jeans have the knees fully wrapped and the seat fully covered instead of less than half of it. I don't recall whether any were the Recons but every set of Icon pants I looked at were essentially the same. I will say that I love my Icon Strongarm Jacket though. The only somewhat odd thing about it is that I found a St. Christopher's medal sewn into the inside breast pocket. Strange but I'll take any added protection, I guess.
