so here is a story

my sister is in town from colorado. She drove her black explorer from Boulder, and she had to get oil changes so she took it down to Firestone on 72nd by Jimmy Johns. It also needed new rear tires and a new battery. So all that work was done and they called her and said the car was finished at like 5:30. Well she needed me to give her a ride down there so she could get her car.

I was ready to go and get going there but she was doing stuff at my house and we left a little later than intended.

So we drive on down there and i dropped her off - she goes into the store (Fireston). Right then i see my sisters car tear out of Firestone garage and blow out onto 72nd street. My sister and a guy who works at Firestone both run out. She runs to me in my car and yells saying her car was just stolen. She was like freaking out crying. At the same time the guy who ran out (he had his mustang GT parked out in front) he hops in that and peals out of the lot onto 72nd street and goes and chases the guy who stole our car to get his plates and let police know the direction hes going.

What seems like 10 seconds later to the next 5 mins a "poo poo" load of Omaha Police came to the spot. More than i have ever seen at once.

So here is what we know so far.... The guy was like walking around firsetone being all sketch. The guy who was working on our car (guy with mustang) told him to get going and not lounge around the garage. The worker then finished our car, parked the car so it was ready to go (it could go straight out of the garage and out of the lotl, and onto the street - so it would be an easy exit for my sister when she came to pick it up). Then the sketch guy comes out of no-where with a shot gun - holds up the cash register in the store part of Firestone. Hops in our car and takes off (as we are comeing in and stuff). The guy the went to Red Lobster next door and robbed them, and went South on 72nd street. the mustang caught up to him and got our plate # but couldnt do much after that.

Police interveiws and all that great stuff.... and we have not heard anything about our car. hopefully he just drops it off.
***Stolen Black 1998 Explorer. v8. 115,that miles. leather. has a CU (colorado buffalo) sticker on the rear window(bottom right corner) and another sticker in the middle. Anyone knows anything post up.

- something to be thankful for.. for the guys who work at firestone, I talked to both of them, and they were greatful to be alive. One guy had a shotgun put to his head, and he was shaken. If we had left when i wanted to... we would have been right in the middle of the stick up... so im thankful to that our timing was good on that. I guess the whole situation was all about timing. That guy had a get away car all ready for him to get up and go on just because of the timing. Crazy story for thanks giving day no joke. Glad everyone was safe. Still waiting to hear if our car has turned up.

sorry if that was hard to read i typed it out pretty fast

Just watch, in a week she will get a phone call to go pick the vehicle, and the goofy-looking robber will be there saying. 'You have been Overhauled'.

But really, that sucks getting her vehicle swiped like that.

.....not too sure I'd be so into chasing down a gun-toting, crackhead robber....

Hope all turns out well, and glad that everyone is ok :).

Glad you are okay.

If it was stolen at Firestone, they should have already had the license plate in their computer. Not sure if tearing after him was necessary.

Also I wonder what the liability is to the Firestone for a vehicle being stolen while they are working on it?

yeah they had it on paper work but all that stuff got thrown around. So the guy kind of took off on instinct.

Yeah, you should check into the liability that Firestone has with that. I work at a gambling and when patrons/guests valet their vehicles with us, the minute the keys are turned into our possession, the vehicle is in our care.

I handle cases all the time where vehicles are damaged/allegedly damaged, and if the vehicle was in our care we end up paying the majority of the time.

I have yet to handle a case where a vehicle has been stolen while in our possession, but it brings up a good point.

Nope and any one suggesting it to me is going to get a long, cold look. While I'll let any of my licenced friends and the guys at my local shop ride my bike no one I don't know is getting on it.

:)

On the other hand Badfish you sound like you are still in shock, but you didn't get hurt so thats all cool and the gang. I'm glad your timing was "good".

That's insane.

Why did the firestone guy need to chase him? It's you sister's car, does she not know the license plate number, or have in file somewhere?
