Honda Motor to set up new motorcycle plant in Peru

LONDON, November 29 – Honda Motor Co (ticker: HDM) Wednesday said that it has decided to establish a new motorcycle plant, Honda Selva del Peru SA, in Peru to meet the growing demand in the country.
The Tokyo-based manufacturer of cars and motorcycles said that the production of motorcycles will begin in 2007. The total motorcycle market in Peru is anticipated to reach approximately 90,000 units in 2006. Honda Selva del Peru is to be built in the Selva area with a capital investment of about $2 million. Honda Motor said that the new plant would have the capacity to manufacture 25,000 units of its NXR125 model every year. The company intends to expand the annual capacity of the new plant to 100,000 motorcycles in the future.
