So I have the helmet (Shark RSR2) and gloves but now I need to get a good quality leather jacket. I've decided on leather because I feel safer in it rather than textile. I've been scouring the internet for reviews, styles, cost etc and I finally made it into Chicago Cycle today to try on a bunch. I think I have it narrowed to the Icon Daytona or the Firstgear Scout IV. However they didn't have the scout so I have no way to test the fit. But I do like the overall look of the Scout and have read several positive reviews. Anyone here have experience with these 2 jackets that they may be willing to share. I think I could rack my brains out tyring to find the best jacket for me so any and all opinions would be great. I don't want to spend over $400 and I ride a Honda Shadow ACE Deluxe.
Thanks for your time,
Mitch

I've said it before, Paying 400 bucks for a $150.00 jacket is nuts. I get all my leather gear here
http://barneysleather.com/mens_leather_R.html.
It's a real shop not just online. I have found over the years that leather gear other than the high tech stuff like Joe Rocket and Alpine Star is all made in Pakistan, India and China. They just put in different labels.
Anytime leather motorcycle gear has a company name that includes the words America or USA, their made ovver seas.

hey mlavin00
send me a note and i'll give you a call.
theres couple websites that sell ICON for a lot less than Chicago Cycle.
they'll rip you off...trust me, but i like going there to see items i wish to uy from the internet or off of ebay.
I am currently looking at the ICON Fate jacket for summer. I like it, but no way in hell i'm paying 350 for it, and Chicago cycle wanted to tack on an additional 10% special order charge since they didnt have it...whats up w/ that.
Based on what i read, Icon leather fits a little loose Vs. thier textil.
Go to thier website and get someone to get your measurements.
as for stores, there arnt too many places here in CHICAGO w/ a large supply of Icon gear, though there might be a place on the southside that has lots of stuff since they mostly sell sportbikes.
On a funny note, i will be going to Chicago Cycle in about a week or two to try on thier Strongarm jacket..they dont have my style, but they have a similar style. I have been told that lots of sportbike riders wear icon. You and i ride cruisers, so most of our appearal will look classic ( like the Harley stuff). I think fit is very important. Got a harley jacket as a gift and though it fits right, the length is to olong for me, causing some issues from time to time.
as mentioned, drop me an email and we can talk.
i live in Naperville and work in the loop...ohh, by the way,the snow sucks doesnt it?

Metricbikes superstore has the daytona for $259. The best prices i've ever seen for icon gear is on that site.
http://www.metricbikes-superstore.com/i ... cPath=1088
Scout IV for $342
Newenough has the scout Iv for the same price
http://www.newenough.com/firstgear_scou ... t_page.htm
and the daytona is a bit more
http://www.newenough.com/icon_daytona_j ... rivate.htm
never used metricbikes before, but newenough is great. awsome customer service. If you go for the scout i suggest using newenough just because their customer service is really easy to deal with just in case it doesnt fit rigt.

metricbikes-superstore took five full days to ship for me - almost unheard of these days. bing.com had my stuff in-hand before metricbikes shipped, and i ordered them at the same time. i got an agv sport tour jacket from totalmotorcycle and love it. i recommend it.
i really like this place's deals, although i haven't ordered from them ever:

I bought my Tour Master Leather jacket at
www.ridegear.com and usually the prices are much lower than what you would find in a regular store. They also have sizing charts for most brands since each brand states different sizes for sm, med, and lg.

I bought this one from LeatherUp.com
http://www.leatherup.com/product.asp?pf ... her%2DMesh
Absolutely superb jacket - excellent materials and workmanship throughout. on sale now at $109
I have found their service before and after sale to be perfect and that includes more than a couple of returns because I ordered a size too small

Thanks for all the replies. Social, I agree with your assessment of Chicago Cycle. Great store to try on and look, but the net is way more cost effective. I'll drop you a line sometime. Now I'm choosing between the Daytona, Scout IV, and the Fox Creek Vented Racing jacket. I think I'm leaning towards the Fox Creek but the mind tends to change up constantly. This is a good problem to have I suppose.

boy snwflk...if I didnt know better you certainly do like plugging barney's there...almost to the point one could think that a little bit of spamming could be going on...
ALL JACKETS ARE MADE IN ASIA! ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE USA IN THE NAME!
Shut up...
I'm looking at fox creek myself eventually here
