After deciding to ride in August, I finally was able to sign up for the spring MSF. So March 30th, 2007 the boyfriend and I go to take our class so that we can get our bikes.

Its still a long time away, but its very close after waiting all of this time. Plus I still have my profecent motorcycle books to finish off. Now we're starting to buy gear.

We'll prob buy our bikes a week or two before hand and have them delivered sot hat we can go and get our lisences updated and start riding as soon as class is over.

We've decided on the Ninja 250 for me and the 500 for him.

All I can possibly say is:

1) Congrats!

2) You're gonna love it

3) It's totally worth the wait

March 30, 2007? Ouch, that's a loooong wait, especially if you want to start riding, like... right now! I had that same problem and after finishing the Proficient Motorcycling book, I decided to go and wait-list the class. It turns out 10 people who signed up didn't show! I got in the class! I don't want to screw up your nicely laid out plan, but maybe you can think about wait-listing, especially now that it's winter and some people are even less inclined to show up to class if it gets particularly chilly.

Sounds like you got it planned out right. I wouldn't take the class now because you probably won't enjoy riding in the cold of winter. Then you'll have to wait till spring, and by then your skills will be a bit rusty. Better to wait till spring to take the class so you'll have the oppurtunity to ride and get practice comfortably.

Riding in cold and/or wet is not for beginners or the ill-prepared. Plan your schedule and purposes accordingly.

I work a midnight shift and work weekends so stanby isen't an option for me. I am a police dispatcher so I can't just suddenly call out for the weekend. Plus we want to take the class together. Its been a long wait already. We decided to do this in august but we had to sign up for MSF and it was full for the year. Registrations opened Dec 1st at 8:30 for the spring. We go to the community collage at 10:00 and already the first two weeks where booked.

At first I was all about a bigger bike, but months of reading and Nalian slapping me a few times helped to clear my mind of such nonsense. I decided on a 250 because I do want a bigger machine and figure I need to start with something that I can spend my time learning.

We plan to use our cars as little as possible once we get the bikes, so we are quite excited. I'm reading and reviewing everything so that I can start buying gear next month.

Good for you for deciding on a 250. And good for your b/f for convincing you (but not for slapping you around ). I am still learning on my Virago 250, and it's a great platform to learn slow maneuvers on. I think I've got u-turns down-pat (something I had difficulty on during the MSF class), and I'm starting to understand the coming-to-a-stop-without-wobbling-the-handles-in-ordre-to-balance thing.
