In all the motorcycle and atv magazines they all carry pictures of the 4 wheeled motorcycle or the street legal UTV. I was looking for any new information if anybody is going to produce one for production and I was wondering if they are street legal or not, wouldn't they come under the same DOT legal standards as a car like 4 wheel brakes, some type of crash protection a full differential axle and so on? It looks like to me this is a new future for motorcycles and atv's.

RE: "wouldn't they come under the same DOT legal standards"

Yes. The street-legal ATV type four-wheelers are for European consumption and do not meet DOT - NTHSA regulations because they are classified as automobiles in the USA.

However, 3-wheelers (two wheels in front) are considered motorcycles and PiaggioCo. currently has has several 3-wheeler scooters that lean in to the turns like a motorcycle... Piaggio 250, Gilera 500.

The ATV manufacturer Can-Am (formerly Bombardier) will soon be unveiling a 3-wheeler (two wheels in front) motorcycle using the same 1000cc Rotax V-twin used in the Aprilia sportbike. There are spy photos on the internet.
