'06 Spirit 750 emissions

#1 Unread post by WyoRider »

My step-son bought a '06 Shadow Spirit 750 while living in California and has now moved back to Wyoming.
What has to be done to remove the "smog" stuff from this bike to increase performance? Something with the pipes? He want's to keep the factory pipes on it and it's still under warantee.
Jetting might need changed. It runs pretty good right now but not sure if it's running at full potential. Went from sea level to 5000ft.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Not sure about the CA smog stuff. While it's a bit bulkier (evap canisters, hoses, etc...) I don't think it has much of an effect on power output.

If he moved from sea level to 5,000ft, the bike should definitely be rejetted. It's very likely running way too rich and that will have a definite effect on power output.

If I'm not mistaken, I'm pretty sure there's a catalytic converter in the stock pipes of cruisers sold in CA. I do know that on average they are 2 lbs heavier because of the increased emissions requirements, so I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Also, I would also recommend rejetting, and if he's REALLY wanting more power, get him a hypercharger for Christmas! Lol
