First Ride, Woo-Hoo!

I just picked up my VN900 yesterday, and boy is she a beaut'!
Kinda funny though, as my dealer's driveway slopes down from the road, which is a very busy highway, (Rt 17 for you NJ/NY folks) so getting out on the hill without rolling back or tipping, into highway traffic, no shoulder on the road with my wife and kids in the cage behind me was a nightmare for a rookie like me.
After I got rolling, I was cool and just didn't want to stop. Darn "responsabilities" like a job and such spoiling an otherwise nice ride.
Riding home from work in the dark was a new experience, too. I think it's harder to judge the distance of a pair of lights in the darkness, then the distance of a cage in broad daylight.
Time to get some cones and hit my kid's school's parking lot.

Cyclenewb- Congrats and Happy Bikeday!
As far as getting it out of your dealer's driveway - you didn't drop the bike and that's all the counts. We don't need no stinkin' style points!
I'll tell you a little story. My wife's been riding about a year longer than me. When I bought my Bonneville in July 2005, I asked her to ride it home, so I didn't have to deal with busy Route 206 traffic. Bad for the male ego, but less risky for the bike. At home I tooled around our development for an hour getting used to the clutch, brakes, etc, before I took it out on the main roads.

congrats....Well I have a story
Back in April of 02...I got my 1st new bike. As I was leaving the dealers lot...I had this terrible thought in my head......I was like don;'t drop the bike....don't drop the bike. The bike felt weird...and I had to make a left out of the driveway. It freaked me out....but it all worked out!

New bike smell! And the VN900's at great bike from what my friends tell me.
Story time: picked up the CBR in London, AND GOT BEATEN AT EVERY LIGHT BY THE SCOOTER BOYS. That first ride is a killer, and now its over, so...show 'em how its done! Enjoy!

oh god, I was amazed to see how much the car moved when he hit. Makes me remember my first time on an ATV. Was going maybe 10mph on a mountain trail when a rock wiggled loose under the wheel and made everything lurch to the right. I almost went over the edge but saved it at the last moment because I gunned it instead of hitting the breaks. I was feeling rather fragile about then.

The first time I rode my bike I was amazed that it had "new bike smell'.
When I got home I realized I had been riding with the choke on.
That's just" burning up fuel smell".
