I to celebrate, as we in the North say, "winter solstice "as it is now the time the Earth moves toward regeneration.

May it be a happy one, and a proper turning point in your year, when darkness begins to transform slowly back into light.

According to Chinese cosmology, the energy of the world is now, once again, transforming. The end of autumn sees the passing away of the energy of metal which has brought with it both loss and the wisdom to understand the necessity of loss. Metal is now giving way to water whose nature is to seek out the most secret and unknown places. At this time, the waters of the earth are running to their deepest levels. There they will nourish what must be stored in darkness for the winter months. And there they will remain until the most powerful energies of the year, the energies of the wood element, return in spring, flowing in all directions and through all living things.

May all things be in balance and flow one into the other in their due order.

I didn't know people celebrated solstices.

By the by that's a kick "O Ring" Christmas (or solstice?) tree.

Loonette and I both came from "pseudo" Christian backgrounds, and had celebrated Christmas every year before we met. I rarely, if ever attended church myself. Born a Lutheran, but my family did not attend services after I was born. Every year though as a kid we had Christmas presents, and a tree, and the wreath on the door. Lights on the house, Santa, and full awareness of the whole story of Jesus and whatnot. When Loonette and I met we just kept that going, without a huge focus on the Christian aspect, but we were aware of the Christ in Christmas. We loved the holiday and traditions.

As a teenager I spend about a year as a born-again Christian and spent A LOT of time reading scripture and talking about the bible. This was about a year before I met Loonette, and I can tell you it was a pain for my mostly atheist Mom.

Today we are not much different really in what we celebrate, as you see from the picture; we have a tree, we have presents, we have a understanding of the origins of Santa and all the trimmings of the holiday. It doesn't take a lot of research to see the things everyone loves about Christmas, is really from the Pagan Solstice celebration of old.

So... we call our celebration Solstice, we celebrate it on the shortest day of the year, and we do the same things most people do on this holiday. Our kids open gifts a few days early. I continue to wish most people a Merry Christmas, and we celebrate on the 25th with people outside our immediate family for their convenience and to honor their traditions.

But since we are Pagans and want other Pagans to know they are not alone, we send out this greeting and wish them a Happy Solstice and a wish for a fantastic returning of the sun.

So this was not about trying to quiet or stop Christmas wishes. It seemed maybe that was misunderstood by some above.

Yeah it was convenient how Christmas was placed on top of the pagan holiday of solstice. I should have paid attention to the History Channel's possible reason of why.

Also using the hints from the Bible Jesus may have actually been born in the spring time around 5-4 B.C. when Jupiter was aligned with our moon and Venus to create a bright "star."
