What a guy. For Christmas, Sweetie got me engine guards for my FJ. Oh, how I love him!
Problem is, neither of us can figure out how to put the suckers on. They didn't come with any pics or instructions. I can't find any info online. Does anyone know how/where to attach them?

Are they specific to your FJ or are they universal-fit-type?

Model-specific guards should be fairly obvious if held up to the bike in approximatly the right place. Sounds like that ain't what you got.

Unversal types should have some sort of clamp or bracket to attach them to the frame, or maybe to a motormount bolt, etc. You may have to modify the supplied clamps or fabricate different ones to get the guards to hang where you want them, depending on how things fit in your specific case.

There is a clamp attachment that makes it seem like the guards are supposed to go around some part of the frame, but I don't see any obvious attachment points anywhere on the engine, frame, or any place else. There is a part number on the tag attached to the part. It seems to be a Yamaha part #, but I wouldn't be able to tell.

I noticed that one of the mounts seems to go around a round part of the frame and the other side is flat. I think the flat side connects to the front motor mount (Near the exhaust header) . I don't know if it is long enough to go from front to back covering the engine cases as I don't have any perspective on the engine guards. Or maybe it goes diagonally to the bottom frame tube...

Hhhmmm... hand written part numbers on a Ford parts tag...... those things could be holyshithandles from a '69 Bronco.

However, back to your guards.

I've never seen an FJ-600 close up, but the few pics I looked at show round tubes used on most of the frame. So the rounded, 2-piece clamp will likely fit on the front downtubs someplace. The bottom bracket looks like it bolts into a pre-existing location.... My FJ-1200 has removable downtubes on both sides that bolt on. If your 600 is similar, the bottom bracket may use one of those bolts.

Hold the rounded end on the downtube and slide it up and down and see if the bottom bracket looks close to lining up with anything. Remove your bellypan, as this location may well be behind it. If so, you will have to trim out the bellypan to clear the guards.

Or not.... I'm pulling all of this out of my bunghole as I go.....

Thanks for all the good tips. I, too, think the tube/clamp attachment looks like it should fit around the frame or a downtube. But, like I said, nothing was blatantly obvious when I tried to figure it out the other day.
I will be gone the next 3 days for work. I will look at it when I get back, though, and let you know what I find. Gawd, let's hope it's not a Bronco part.

And, FWIW, they were in a Yamaha parts bag with a Yamaha sticker on it. The bag was open and it may have gotten tossed with the Christmas wrapping paper.

The worst part of Christmas is realizing you are missing one of your new Nike running shoes and the trash man has already picked up. There were 8 of us kids when i was growing up and someone always threw away part of a gift.................it happens
