Is it possible to negotiate a price at a dealership?

I've never purchased a motorcycle from a dealer before.

I have been looking at a 1999 gs500 for 2250 tax and title, however, this bike has been in ads for over three months now. Is it reasonable to offer less?

thanks,

Yes. I think a lot depends on which bike it is (you should be able to offer less for a used GS500) And also the sales person you deal with. I bought my bike in the fall and negotiated my way down to $5,250 while the MSRP was $6,499.

Depending on milage and how well it's been taken care of makes a difference. If it was me buying this bike, I might offer the dealer $1800 cash and if they didn't take it I would probably walk. That is my opinion if it was me buying it. Just my opinion.

Offer $1800-2000.

Or see if you can't score a 'free' helmet at the $2250 price. That might help reduce the cost in the sense that you're saving that much more money.

+1 on the 'free' helmet. If there's gear or accessories you need/want, try to get some thrown in if they won't budge on the dollar amount, this works sometimes.

Also, cash talks. If you don't mind carrying a wad, show it to them. Literally. Bring 18 hundred dollar bills, put it on the salesperson's desk, ask if you have a deal.
