Motorcycle plan for restaurant
Thursday, January 4, 2007 - Lancashire Evening Post - lep.co.uk
Luxury motorcycles could soon go on sale in a Preston bar if plans to open a new showroom are approved.
Tango Joe's restaurant on West Strand has closed and now looks set to reopen as a showroom selling high-performance motorbikes.
Motor group Bowker, which has a car showroom at Preston's Docklands, has applied to convert the site back to its original use as a motorcycle dealership.
The company currently sells BMW and Mini cars from its branch on Channel Way. It hopes to expand into the motorcycle market.
A workshop and a customer cafe have also been included in the planning application, which is currently being considered by Preston Council.
The Evening Post understands that the new dealership will also sell BMW bikes.
The former Fylde Superbikes showroom opened as a restaurant and nightclub holding more than 800 people less than two years ago, after a £1.5m refit.
The Strand was the first nightspot in the city to open as a completely non-smoking venue and featured a Ducati motorcycle on a podium inside.
The restaurant and bar was launched in March 2005 and held regular themed nights, including a singles night hosted by popular Preston DJ Des Grant.
Comedy club the Laughterhouse also held regular evenings at the bar.
But in August 2006 it reopened as the popular South American-themed restaurant Tango Joe's.
The restaurant closed on New Year's Eve, and director Adam Franklin said they would be moving to a new location in the heart of the city centre "very soon."
