Saw the last half hour of this on ESPN Classic, and ordered it off Amazon the next day. Really cool movie by the guy who did "Endless Summer" - the surfer documentary.

The pros he covers in this movie all some b@lls-out riders, and show what a primitive bike can do. Well worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

I give it: :rocking::rocking::rocking::rocking: out of five!

Yeah, those were the days. Too bad the AMA split the dirt bikes from the road racers. Up unitl 1986, in order to carry the Grand National title and the #1 plate, you had to compete in five different styles of racing (Mile, Half mile, Short track, TT, and Road Racing). The top ten plates were given to the top ten riders each year in the pro expert class. For those of you who think that Eddie Lawson and Kenny Roberts (the dad, not the son) were great road racers, they were awesome dirt trackers first. The photo below shows Alex Jorgensen, a truly awesome rider out of central California (Kenny's back yard). Jorgy never made the #1 plate but he was frequently high in the year end results. The bike he is riding in this photo is a Ron Woods Norton 750 twin. The photo is taken at the Sacramento Mile track. This scooter is the only Norton to ever win a mile oval.

Here's another one from the 70's. This is Mark Brelsford on the San Jose mile track. Brelsford was the 1972 AMA #1 plate. He rode Harley's for the factory.

"On Any Sunday" is a great flick - we bought a copy two years ago and watch it often. Did you get to see the part yet with the ice racing?! Now that's some crazy riding. You'll enjoy the entire movie quite a lot.

Hey, I'm in that movie! I'm one of the anonymous fools riding hellbent for leather across the desert.

A couple of other good ones are Faster and The Long Way Round.

I really wish I could rent these types of videos somewhere. Does anyone know if that is possible?

As far as where to rent, Netflix baby! I just put On Any Sunday in my queue.

Now I am feeling old, I watched On any sunday as a kid and it reinforced this primative instinct that i had to get on two wheels with an engine. I was the only family member, and still am the only one interested in bikes.

Probably my favorite part was the Spanish Trials. That is pretty hardcore. Skills test of most everything except track speed.

I never was interested in dirt riding until I watched the movie, then I was all interested in a dual-purpose - I am motorcycle only, so anything I'd have for off-road would have to be street legal too
