Your local bike shop should have some. There are all kinds.
Icon, Joe Rocket, Nitro, Hein Gerick (sp?) Belstaf, Aerostitch, etc., etc., etc.

i'll be looking at some Icon Strongarm pants, though the length will be a little long for me-
need to see how they fit as sometimes, these jeans can run a little small.

Yes, as stated before there are many different types. For summer use, you could use textile, or mesh. I use Tourmaster Caliber pants and couldn't be happier. They are textile, and Im pretty sure when the 100+ weather comes around, Ill still be comfortable in them. If not, then ill pick up a pair of mesh pants.

are there riding pants that you could where to an event. for instance, say you're taking your bike to a buddys house for a bbq, and you dont wanna stand out like a sore thumb, are there pants that offer the same protection as say a textile pair but look like a regular pair of jeans? you know what i mean?

There are alot of companies that make jeans they say can be used as riding gear. Draggin' Jeans is probably the first to start it all, and one of the founders use to actually have a truck drag him down a road to show the level of protection they offered. I think they even have optional padding, but I don't know about any armor options though.

I bought a pair of Firstgear "fuel" pants since newenough.com had them on clearance for $84. Im pretty happy with them considering what I paid. They are textile but have leather areas around the knees and hips and some "padding" in those areas as well. Not "armored" though but you can buy the armor inserts if you like. Not sure how they'll do in the summer though since they arent vented at all. http://www.newenough.com/firstgear_fuel_pants_page.htm

I wanna get a pair of draggin jeans to wear to work or for short trips around town. They have optional armor for the knees as well.

There is always the option of armoured underwear so that when you get someplace you can get out of the armoured stuff and still have the Draggin Jeans on.

Or you could simply wear your armoured pants over your jeans and take the riding pants off. Easy!

+1 to Koss. I bought a pair of Tour Master Caliber pants from newenough.com and I really like 'em. Fortunately, I haven't had to test the armour yet.
