Yellowknife North West Territories

I am thinking about a trip to Yellowknife next summer. It will be about 3000 miles (5000 km) round trip & I would like to know if anyone else has gone up there, what the roads are like, what is the best time to go etc. Any info would be appreciated

I've thought about taking a trip up there myself. I used to live there, many years ago, and it would be nice to go back and check out the old neighbourhood. Of course, it's been 25 odd years since I've been there, so a lot has changed.

As for time to go, I would recommend July/August - you'll get the nicest weather, but take lots of industrial strength bug juice - the mosquitos will carry you away and the black flies and horse flies will take a few pounds of flesh off you.

Roads should be relatively decent for a good portion of the way, but there will be at least one ferry trip and expect to have to ride some gravel getting there.

If I've got a couple days free when you come through, I might be inclined to ride up there with you.
