How big a pain could it be?

Looking at putting clip-ons on a Ninja 500-R. How big a hassle is that typically? The

has bolt-on straight handles currently, but moving all the controls is my only worry (never had to mess with that end of the throttle before).

Do some measuring. You may have to have brake lines and cables made up because the old ones may be too long.
Otherwise, not a hard changeover.

I'll have to see how much I want to play with it. I tend to keep bikes stock, but miss the dropped bars from my 636

The only way it would be tough is if you have cables routed internally (you don't). Or if you're scared of a wrench. There's a good chance the brake lines will still be okay, but you'll probably need a new throttle and clutch cables. Should be possible to aquire a set at any bike shop.
