Looking for a viable option for my comute to work. At work I wear slacks, shirt and tie, obviously not appropriate clothes for riding my bike in the mornings.

That of course is sloved with a good riding jacker, gloves and boots ... but what about my pants? Do I bring my slacks in a bag and change in the bathroom? I see these things called "overpants" which I'm assuming is something you can wear over your regular pants ... seems to be the answer ... but what about protection?

Anyone have any experience with these?

Thanks. I trying to get all my gear in line so when I do get the bike I won't be wating weeks just to ride it safely.

I have Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0's. They fit nicely over my regular pants. Also have the First Gear Mesh Tex pants. I can fit them on over my regular pants, but not very well.

I've got a set of textile overpants on eBay for around $80.

They have armored knees and hips, elastic expandable waist, removeable thermal liner and water resistant outer material.

I believe there's a review of them in my blog or in the gear review/opinions.

I like them well enough but, they definitely get too hot for long rides. I don't put the thermal liner in until the temps get into the low to mid 40's. Otherwise, you start to sweat.

I have some Tour Master Venture pants that are pretty light and water resistant without the liner. Very warm and water resistant with the liner. I commute everyday by bike and have had no problems.

If your jacket has a zipper at the small of your back (inside) - you may want to get the same brand pant, or make sure what you buy zips to your current jacket. That little zipper does a lot to keep the wind and rain out of your crack

Yup - overpants go on over your pants so you can wear your normal clothes beneath them. I wear some and just take them off in my cube. How much protection they offer depends on which ones you get.

Hehe, and +1 to your first gear pants... I'm also happy with my jacket. Maybe we should switch so we could have the correct matching zippers from the pants to the jacket!

any suggestions for the hot humid houston weather and still have good protection?
