I think I found a bike that would be good its a 2001 Ninja 250R. The guy is selling it on ebay, after I contacted him he told me that most of the bike was in peices. I guess the gass tank is off and the fairing, he told me he takes it off when he moves and handent had the chance to put it back together. He told me that the previous owner messed up the carbs so, from the way it sounds I will need to invest in replacements or new parts.

My questions are; What should I expect to pay for it? The KBB is 2165, but it doenst sound like its in "excellent condition". Also what would a carb rebuild cost? Thank you for reading my post

I would be kind of concerned that it isn't in good working order. It is what they call a "PIG IN A POKE", and from the sound of things, you can't even determine if it will run. Do yourself a favor and buy a running bike in at least good overall condition.

You might check with a dealer or even cycletrader.com for used.

Take it apart to move it? I'd ride it to move it. The bike sounds like something you might want to look into harder before dropping your cash.....

lol i didnt know tanking the gas tank off was standard operation when moving a bike... makes no sense to me, but hey ive herd crazier things.

offer him 500$ to take the Parts off his hand.

If it really only needs a carb rebuild and reassembly, why doesn't he do that before trying to sell it? This guy either doesn't care what he gets for it or there are other issues with this bike. My money is on 'other issues'.

Ebay just about always concerns me these days. It stinks because I've gotten some hard to find stuff at a decent price. But it's just loaded these days with people trying to get way, way more than something is worth.

I'm currently looking for a little 125 or 250 street bike for my wife to scoot around the neighborhood with... so I was browsing ebay yesterday and I saw a guy selling a 1986 cb125s with 4000 miles and a dented gas tank. The 'buy it now' price was $2150.00. That's right, over $2000 for a twenty year old 125cc common bike that's nowhere near mint condition. I had to look back a couple of times to make sure there weren't two or three of them! I don't want to give a guy too hard of a time - it's none of my business and I can just move on, but it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

i think i got a good deal on my bike off ebay, the guy was local so i went and checkd it out, low miles no damage(besides a small tank dent). fairly decent asking price on ebay, i brought it down and had a helmet thrown in for good measure. the guy was desperate to sell so we made the deal that day and he was willing to drive it across phoenix to drop it off for me so... i was happy.

but everyone else i tried to deal with on ebay wasnt worth it. either they wouldnt budge on their price even when the bike was damaged, or old high miles. kills me when people ask for pretty much what they paid for the bike new when its 2-3 years old a few drops later and alot of miles but they want to resell it for exactly what they paid.

i email them all the time and say ill pass on their bike and buy the brand new one for the same price instead. i get alof of angry emails back ;)

I know exactly what you mean. There's no point in it really, but I couldn't resist so I emailed the guy and asked him if it came with a $1000 bill under the seat. You can find some decent deals there and they are good for parts, but good deals on bikes from ebay are getting harder and harder to find. As always, your mileage may vary.
