Motorcycle News Party - Peterborough Elections

Well, we've just had our elections here and tony's in for a few more years.... But I did find one real oddity.....

Here in peterborough, we had acandidate available called mr Marc Potter, who represented the Motorcycle News Party.

A: Does anyone know if this was a serious attempt?

and

B: Would you consider voting for a party based around motorcycles (in my opinion a great pasttime, but not really a political ethos)?

i would have to hear him debate the issues to see that he is as eloquent as George Bush before voting for him.

Well ill mail in my vote for Him.As long as he gets rid of road tax for bikes and reduces insurance premiums for bikes and allows mopeds to be full power so they are safer.

Whats Blightys mood like at the moment with Blair getting back in.

There was talk on American TV that Tony was expected to win, but his power would be restricted more. What's that about?

Mashby, Its the usual after elections, time for quiet thought, followed by 5 years of Whoops! But at the end of the day, on all the important issues, I personally think all the partys act very similarly in nature. (obviously quick to jump on the mistakes they'd have made themselves if they were in power)

I like it when political candidates share some of the same interests that I do, but I just can't see how you can build an entire platform being bike centric. There would have to be a lot more going on than just that. Maybe it was just a cute party name?

Oldnslow, Thank goodness Tonys restricted, he's a right little dictator. What that means he's lost a few seats in the houses of parliament, if it had been proportional representation Labour wouldnt have got in again. Each town elects either Conservative, Labour or Lib Dems. Say Lib Dems won 5 towns, that would be 5 seats in parliament. At Parliament is where they make new laws and rules, Last time Labour had the majority of seats, therefore not much opposition, but this time round Conservative and Lib Dems gained more seats. So otherwise some of these dictator new laws can now be argued fairly, and it has to be the majority for new laws to pass. Hope this explains a little.

The good news is that previously Tony's majority was so stupid that that there was no point in back bencers rebelling when it came to voting on new law.

However with such a reduced a majority every rebel voting against the party line counts and they have a lot more power. In the week or so since back benchers have already been flexing their political muscle.

Hopefully the next four years should be a lot more democratic and less what the Labour Leadership wants.

The MCN attempt on Peterborough was kind of a serious attempt, they never expected to win or anything but the point was to show our beloved political leaders that motorbikers vote to and we have a few political issues that we want to see sorted out.

Hi Kal, Daves weekly reader of MCN. And they are very informative, But in eyes of law, bikers are treated far differently than car drivers. I'll give 1 example, a car ploughed into a biker, the bikers foot got caught in the bumper, dragged him down the road, foot came loose and the driver sped off, and failed to stop. The biker suffered horrific injuries, including losing his foot. When they did catch the driver and went to court, the driver got a £300 fine and 3 points on his license, Now where's the justice in that, it was a complete insult to the biker!
