The last one is such a hard decision! I really want to put some kind of touring bike on the list, but I can't go without putting the 2000 Ducati Mike Hailwood replica 900. I'd just raise the bars and use my SS for 2-up duty if I had one of these. Definitely the Mike Hailwood over the Paul Smart Replica...

Confining myself to current production bikes, don't know enough motorcycle history to do vintage bikes.

List changes from day to day. Today it might be:

Triumph Speed Triple 1050
Suzuki DR650SE
Ducati GT1000
BMW R1200ST
Ural Patrol

I'd probably end up with one from every category.
1. Buell Adventure (their dual-sport)
2. Suzuki SV1000 (with fairings, but not the S version)
3. Kawasaki Mean Streak 1600 with the awesome paint job
4. Kawasaki Concours 14
5. Suzuki GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa

Between those 5 I'd have no problem finding a bike for any situation (except for the stupid snow on the ground, for that I'd have to have a 6th choice, which would be a Ural with a sidecar, just like you Gummi!)

Yes, the February blues are here, but luckily our weather here just swung towards sunshine and with a few more days of this we should be riding again.... soon soon... but in the mean time we can dream...

One day when I have a ridiculous amount of money I will buy a few new toys and dare to dream we could look at these:

3) FZR400RR or NC30 (v4-400). I had a 1988 FZR4 and would love to have a later RR model which were the first 4-stroke 4-cyl to beat the current TZR250RR v-twin in the Japanese production race series. Until then the two-strokes still dominated completely.

or Harris YZR500 – ok, i’d really like a Marlboro Rainey Replica, but the Harris models will do and are almost available. A friend owned a nicely done Marlboro-replica RZ500 with chambers, etc. and when he got divorced he offered it to me. i missed that one. But i was not hopelessly romantic enough at the time and decided a newer bike with better chassis was better... oh well... the romanticism comes and goes, sometimes practical, sometimes not.

5) TZ250 or a TZ or RS chassis and big-bore single SZR660 engine or Rotax would be nice; similar to this:

3) TDR850:
I rode a TDM850 a couple times (much like a current Suzuki Vstrom but with a parallel twin from Yam’s Super Tenere XTZ750, and other than it looks ugly and had brutal handlebar positioning i liked the motor and chassis) and i also rode (and was ticketed on Yam’s TDR250 (engine from TZR250))... sooo... the TDR is a nice Japanese version of the the Ducati 900ss with Segale-like trellis frame etc:

there aren’t that many current street bikes that are real dream bikes on my mind at the moment; must be some specialty stuff or classics…

4) 1985 Ducati 750F1 would be nice or a Hailwood rep. ... that current MH900 that DivideOverflow pointed out is a sweet one too, and it also reminds me of the Ducati SuperMono 500 single. (DivideOverflow: you'd like an old-codger friend of mine who raced old singles in the Tazmanian (Aussie, NewZealand, etc) racing series in the 1960s or so. He even raced a Manx for awhile and currently has a couple BSAs which I think is the Clubman you refer to. He's had a few and i only vaguley remember them most of the time. I just oogle them. I'd have to dig up some pix of it. He had a totally tricked out SR500 that he raced more recently too. I have pix of both in the deep deep archives.

5) or some classic: Vincent Black Shadow, or Thruxton, or Norton Manx... or one of hundred other neat bikes...

5 - MX and Dirt bikes:

3) KTM 125SX – i crashed a buddies once coming off a “forgotten” 6 foot ramp into a drop double-jump that really is a triple i think, and I hit the face of the next jump, and suffered my first, last and worst concussion. i got up immediately after the crash, but later had a half-hour memory loss of the incidents after the crash, i remembered loading the bike up, but the loss of conciousness was sitting in the truck coming home with him from the mx track unconcious but talking with him all the way. interesting stuff. it was however a phenomenal bike. he’s a canadian pro mx’r so it was nicely tuned. this is a bike i’d like to learn to ride well.

4) KTM 360 EXC (2-stroke) enduro... nasty, but light enough and with a great chassis

5) Rokon – ridiculous; i know a guy with one. goofy go-anywhere bike. a cartoon character in real life.

OK, OK let’s make that brainstorming into 5 shall we, in case the moto-gods are watching and expecting an answer:

5 - Bikes Forever:
============

1) Vyrus 985 C3 4v – cool and according to Alan Cathcart, it works.

2) TZ250 – should provide years of challenge and enjoyment without killing oneself needlessly

3) MT-03 – a real neat all-round street bike, but I likely would trade it for an adventure tourer, like the XTz660. Again, light over powerful always works better for me.

4) YZ250F – tough call, but I’ll take the current 4-stroke and weight penalty with smoother power over the equally nice YZ125 2-stroke which still holds that weight advantage (esp. in rotating engine mass). Should be a little better for lthose days when being a lazy rider is inevitable. A real dirt bike, ice racer, and a 450 is too deadly, unless i was racing Super-Motard. This reminds me that a KDX200 or 220 is a really good all-round dirt bike too.

Oh, and how about something uber-classic to park in the living room...

5) The Scott Flying Squirrel:
Interestingly that bike just crossed my mind. I’ve saw it first in the back of a truck when a collector was bringing it back home. Pete, was a nice guy who always showed me his newly acquired bikes. That day he had an ultra cool road machine in the back (not that his usually Trimphs and Nortons werent), but it looked like a old shiny board-racer of sorts, was purple I think, and had a liquid cooled parallel twin 2-stroke engine. The amazing thing was this bike was 1920’s vintage. TOTALLY COOL. To me it was the grandfather of my RZ350.
