I want to remove some of the engine pieces that have gaskets - valve cover, clutch case etc, and I could only find a gasket set for almost $200 for my bike, a Kaw zr550, year 1990. Can I buy a spray that will act as a complete gasket or do i have to buy the exact gasket I need?

I have a clicking/clinking sound coming from my clutch area but I don't want to remove it until I know what my options are. $200 means continued clicking is the only option.

Stuff like that tends to have small sections that squeeze out, like icing between two cookies or something. On the outside you just wipe it clean and you're good to go... on the inside you have pieces that might eventually break off and float around in your oil potentially clogging oil galleries (which would cause a lubrication failure) potentially wrecking your engine. Personally I don't think it's a good idea.

See if you can purchase just the gaskets you need as you go through the parts.

Bike Bandit will sell parts separately and I THINK this is your bike. But I couldn't find anything that said zzr550 specifically for 1990, you'll have to double check.

Here Are the three or four gaskets you need to replace to remove the left and right side engine covers, aprox $30 worth.

Yeah that's what I was looking for, somehow it slipped my search. Too bad the form-your-own gasket thing doesn't work as well.

It works, and if you do it right it won't leak. But I'd rather spend the extra $$ and be sure I won't be starving some poor part of my engine of oil. Sort of a short-term savings vs long-run savings in my opinion.
