license test question

Do I need a licensed rider to show up to the test site with me? I know you're supposed to, but do they care? I have the skillz, but my bike has a 35 year old clutch, which might cause me to fail at figure-8's and such.

I know it varies from state to state, but just answer for yours. I live in NY.

edit: in case you didn't make the connection, I don't like to fail with an audience :frusty:

I thought the licensed driver was to drive the examiner in the "follow car" during the road test.

...but if I'm wrong, it won't be the first time.

In MA you do not need a to bring anyone. If the bike is not in your name though, you do need to bring the bike's owner.

Also, in MA the test is in a parking lot - no follow car.

Parking lot test in indiana also. No other person required. I imagine that even if you fail your permit is still good. At least when I went and got my license those that failed still rode home. They weren't happy, but they were riding.

I live in NY and i recieved my license last year, yes you have to have a licensed driver in a passanger vehicle, and if you fail the fiqure 8's they fail you; atleast at my neck of the woods. They made my buddy show him his motorcycle indorsement and the registration and insurance to my truck my buddy was driving, also i had to have my permit on me and my insurance and registration for the bike. I asked the DMV guy about that and he said he did have people show uo alone on a permit and they call the police have ticketed for driving out of class and make you stay there untill somebody with a license comes or you leave your bike and get a ride.

Here they dont mess around, what part of NY are you from?

Forgot to mention they follow you with the person you bring, they drive he watches you, for me he said make a left go three streetes down make a right on blah blah rd and stop. Then the 8's 2- left 2- right . then you drive for a little more go back to where you started and see if you passed!!

You can fail twice in NY, your permit is still good, you just have to pay for the next road test
