Ready for a sportbike

#1 Unread post by TXClassic »

I bought a brand new V-Star 650 last march, and rode it all summer, and when I could in the winter. I thought I would be happy with a cruiser, but I find myself wanting a sportbike more and more. My question is, am I ready for a 600cc sportbike? I really like the Suzuki GSX-R600. I'm currently trying to sell me V-Star, but are there any veterens out there with some input? Thanks.

I remember someone saying to me, I cant remember if it was sev or someone, but they said this.

"once you don't even have to think the slightest about: turning, traffic jams, (and a bunch of other stuff i forgot), and you ride for one year (dont know about this either) after that, you should be ready for your tame sportbike."

it was something along the lines of that

well i guess what I'm really trying to find out is, how would the GSX-R6 compare to the V-Star 650?? I have never been on a sport bike before, and was just wondering what the difference in power is?

vstar has a tame 40 HP engine.
GSXR 600 has a razor sharp I-4 105 HP engine.

How are they alike?

They both have two wheels, a frame, handlebars, a seat, and a gas tank. Other than that, they don't have a lot in common. Many bumbling idiots rice V-Stars and survive. Gixxers kill bumbling idiots for fun. If you are VERY careful and respect the Gixxers capabilities, you'll be okay.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

nicely stated, qwerty. dont think I could have said something as clever as that. Verm is still alive.

They don't compare.

Why not try out SVs, FZs, Ninja 650..? Why to a GSXR?

The change to those will be drastic anyway, but a bit more forgiving.

If you have to ask, the answer is no.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.
