Which Yamaha do you consider a classic ?

So if you guys are Yamaha fans, which Yamaha do you consider a classic or collectable from the past or a current bike that is destined to be a classic or collectable in the future? My choice from the past is the XS650 Vertical twin, and for future collectors, I think the mighty V-Max will be highly sought after. How about it, any favorite Yamahas ?

Good idea...I hafta agree with you on the XS650's.

I also think the 2-stroke RD- roadbikes are classics, and sought after.

Yep the RD would certainly be on that list.

I think Yamaha's first foray into the North American V-Twin market should also be considered for this list.

The '81 air cooled, shaft driven, Virago 750.

Mmmmm....I don't know about the Virago. (sorry, Dr_) When I see a Virago, I just see Yamaha's first paltry attempt to emulate a Harley. Sure, the XS's are trying to be a Triumph Bonneville but they a) are a LOT like the real thing and b) are great on their own merits. The Virago may have point b), but never had point a).

Here...it's $0.02. :P

What about the FZ1, do you think 20 years from now the collectors will be beating the bushes for a prime example of one ?

+1 for the RD's. I cut my road teeth and a fair bit of skin on 'em, back when. 2-strokes still make me tingly 'down there'.

And you have to list the RZ-500 on that list. The proto-typical racebike with lights Joe Blow could go out and buy.

Here in Canada, at least. 8)

I dunno...what's an FZ1?

** pause whilst looking on ebay motors **

Meh...I dunno 'bout modern sportbikes. The ones I think of as "classics" now aren't Yammers -- Kawasaki GPz/Ninja is the forefather -- heck, "Ninja" is synonymous with "sportbike." Of the modern crop, I'd think the Gixxers, if anything.

Whaddabout the old DT enduro bikes, or YZ motocrossers?
