Hey everyone, its been quite a while. i got the old nighthawk out of storage last week, and i had to put a new battery in it before it would work properly.

i'm looking at a new leather jacket, because the one i've been using is rather thin , the thing is i'm kinda poor, however i think i can scrape up enough to get one. I like the looks of this one, and its thick so thats a definate plus.

I dont have anything for my legs but denim or canvas pants. any suggestions?

P.S. yesterday was quite fun, i took a 150 mile ride on US 42 and route 8, good fun times.

Probably the cheapest way to go for leg protection is a set of chaps. I've seen them as low as $49.99 (just look on e-bay, etc.) But the cheaper ones usually have to be hemmed to your length, which adds some expense if you can't do it yourself.

I got a pair from www.newenough.com for $88.00 including shipping. There are many sites that are competitive, though. Look around. The pants pictured have adjustable armor in the knees and hips, and I've noticed they allow more air flow than regular jeans, so they are decent for the summer. They do get a little warm when you're not moving, though.

I just bought Icon recon jeans. No armor, but kevlar panels in the knees and flex kevlar in the crotch and thighs for ventilation and mobility, with a rider's cut for great comfort. Also, Hot leathers chaps, if you can find them, are heavy, naked leather. Some of the ebay chaps are patchwork, and very thin, so be extra careful to read the fine print or ask specifically about the thickness. There are many good deals, if you do the research, and it's buyer beware.

Fortunately, chaps can be shortened with a pair of scissors without having to worry about sewing up the cut edge. Leather doesn't fray like cloth would. As long as you still have some snaps at the bottom to secure the end, you'll be ok. I had to do this with my chaps when I bought them last spring and it worked out fine.

I've actually got the same one, except black, and insulated with thinsulate lining. It's my winter jacket, and although it doesn't have armor in the shoulders and elbows like other MC jackets, it's very thick, and I think it offers good protection. I paid a bit less for mine, but that's not a bad deal.

I cut my chaps and used clear two-part epoxy to seal the thread in the seams at the bottom to keep it from unraveling. Works great.
