I just posted about 2 bikes the Kawasaki 900 custom and the Honda VTX1300c.

My question is for each bike what kind of pipe would be the loudest. I'm looking for some peformance but mainly for the loudnest. I want to make either bike to be as loud as i can get it if it means to lose a little bit of power thats alright i Just want it loud.

This is a major reason that people hate motorcycles. It's gotten so bad that Harley even started putting measures in place to keep noise levels down on their new bikes and make it harder to get upgrades to loud pipes.

Why do you want loud? It's not safer, it agitates people, it can damage your hearing and it will "pee" off your neighbors. If you don't like your neighbors do teh civilized thing and either tell them or kill their cat.

Seriously, too loud hurts... But if you're going to do it... Screaming Eagles and Vance & Hines Drag pipes... leave the baffles in both though, otherwise they literally hurt the ears...

I like my bikes quiet so I can hear the knocking sounds inside the engine, and I have this thing about listening to the tires, I have to hear my tires to know if im getting good traction or not, to me my stock M50 mufflers are still too loud. A friend has a new HD Fat Boy, that bike sounded soooo sweet and smooth with the stock exhaust, then he installed pipes on it, now to me it sounds like a piece of junk!

I also like my bikes nice n' quiet. I wish my bike had 5 baffles in it.
I don't know if you live in a neighborhood or a desert, but I second what Wrider said about those pipes. Those baby's will do the trick.
Bottom line though, loud bikes are annoying. (at least to me)

Sorry to bump and old thread, but I have a question - found a V-Star with Cobra pipes. Are these really loud? As in, are they really obnoxious and will I hate them?

Just wanted to know. Also, if I decide to buy the bike, how much extra should I be willing to pay for these pipes (if anything)? Or should I actually try to reduce the price because the parts aren't stock?

Well, Cobras are loud, depends on if they're baffled still or not. Also, if it's carbeurated, make sure it's been rejetted for those pipes. What size V-star? It also depends on how much you like loud bikes. Personally, drilling out my pipes a very little bit would make me happy... But Cobras are too much.
As for the second part of your question, that brand usually retails for about 350-500 dollars, so you should probably expect to pay an additional 150-200 for them, or more if he gives you the stock pipes too... (If you do decide to put those back on, you're going to have to rejet again)... Oh, and rejetting isn't really all that hard, it was the first major mechanical thing I've ever done!

lunchmeat yes, yes, and yes. Deduct $1000.00

if your buying from an individual have them start it up and listen to it, then decide if it's too loud. See if they still have the stock exaust.
If your buying at a dealer have them start it up and listen to it.

It's a 650. I've heard it works as a beginner bike. *shrug*

I'd like to see if I can get the stock pipes as well, just so I can have a choice if it ever comes to it. It may be necessary. I think I'll ask him down about the cobras, though, and specifically state that unless he has the stock parts he won't get a higher price. Although that might not be a good idea as I kinda really want this bike....but I'll try to drive a hrad bargain, see what I can get out of it.

Yeah, the is a good beginner bike, not too big, not too small... That's the lower end of what my 300 lb self was looking for as a first bike, but I got the 800 instead. Other things you might ask him about is "Does it have a windshield, does it have saddlebags, aftermarket seats (such as corbin or mustang)." All of those things will factor into the price too...
