Really stupid question....really.

Thought about this, tried to call the DMV, which was stupid. I'd have been on hold for an hour.

The question....if you're buying a vehicle, can you sign the title over to someone with a learner's permit only? I know you need a "valid driver's license" but I don't know if a permit counts. I mean, you have a valid license number...?

I'm not sure about this, as I had eye surgery and I'm working on the whole license thing. (Ridiculous, I know.) Is this possible? I have a few more checkups until I get fitted for my contacts. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Thanks.

I have no idea, I'm in the UK, and your wording seems Americanised to me, so I'd suggest you add which state you are in, as legislation changes from place to place.

Where I live you don't even need a MC license to buy a bike from a dealership.

I am from California and I bought the bike without a permit or license, so the bike had to be sent to my house for a charge of $40.

Sure, you can have the title in your name, you can get it registered and insured... but you can't drive it.

I'm in Florida, in the US.

I'm not that worried about not riding it for a week or something - but I need to get a bike as soon as possible so this is actually concrete. If I own a motorcycle there's no stopping me. Right now, though, it could all go to "poo poo", and I don't want that to happen.

I was looking at local laws, but they specified "valid driver's license" and I don't know if that includes permits. As long as I can get the title in my name, though, as Storysunfolding mentioned, I'm good. I'll just need to go pick up my license as soon as possible. (i also want the bike now because I think i might have a pretty good deal, and I'm not sure if I'll find another one in the immediate future.)

Yeah- local laws can't prevent you from owning the bike, but they can definately say how you operate the bike. The only caveat is that you need to be an adult to own a motor vehicle in the us, if you are 18+ you're set.

Not in NY i had my bike registered and insured with no permit or license (two years ago) Took my permit test after i registered it that day :D My brother had a bike for years with no license or permit and it was financed through Harley had full coverage insurance and registered in his name it is pretty common in NY, I did not ride illegally I made sure I allways had a licensed rider with me and did not drive without a permit.

Really, I'm the title holder on my bike and I'm still 16. Isn't that the same thing as owning it? Also, I registered it and got insurance while still on my permit. No hassle at all.

Maybe it's just the states that I've been in but in Va you can't own a motor vehicle as a minor. You can be a cosigner but you can't own it outright
