How many miles can you get out of the average bike?

Assuming you buy it new, and you take impeccable care of it. I realize every bike is different, but is there an average. I have a 1987 Toyota pickup (no motorcycle yet) and it's got about 300 k miles on it, and still runs great. Can the comparable be said about a Japanese motorcycle?

If its kept up and ridden well, sure.
As Sev said, a lot are not. But the potential for longevity is there.

10,000 miles, thats 2000 miles a year keeping the bike for 5 years, the only people that can afford a bike work for living and have a full time job, so their free time riding a bike is limited so they have no time to add up high mileage. Any bike over 10K miles will have some engine problem issue and can't be trusted, and you have to understand a motorcycle engine revs up to 5 times faster than a car engine and that shortens the life of the engine, think of you driving ur car around at 8000rpm and at 120 mph all day, you know that engine in ur car isn't going to last long. Bikes are not designed to last forever, they are designed as a throw-away bike, they are never cost effective to repair, ur better off to replace it and buy a new one.

Stop your lies. Seriously. Tell that to my 79 KZ650 with 30k+ miles, or the VFR that I just sold with 25k+ miles. Tell that to the VFR guys with well over 100k miles, the BMW guys with well over 100k+ miles.
If well maintained, the bike will last a very, very long time.

You're a moron if you think a motorcycle is only meant to last 10K miles
At work I ride a Kawasaki KZ1000 police motorcycle which has 75K miles and it runs like a champ
