high idle, carb sync...

My gl1100 is idling pretty high, about 1500. Lower than this its real rough. I have been told that my carbs are likely out of sync. One feller suggested that if I run too long like this I can cause damage. True?

Also, if I spring for some guages, is it something that a newbie mechanic can tackle? How much do shops usually charge? I know I can call, but all the local shops do the closed monday thing. Of course, I want to know NOW!, right?

thanks for your help...

piece of cake really. though many spend hours and hours. i would skip the gauges and remove the carbs and do a complete cleaning. then if your good you can sync them by eye. yes it can be done i always did this on carb overhauls and i never had a problem.

skip the stealer and do it yourself.

:wink

p.s the condition you described sounds like the pilot circut is clogged or out of adjustment.
