I only use synthetic oil (Mobil 1) in my cars, all survived over 150K miles (current one at 198K and still going) but usually the trans/drive train goes or electrical ghosts show up before the engines have major issues.

For those that use Sythetic oil only in your bikes.

I like to know what you feel are the top three engine oil specifically for bikes (wet clutchs)? If you know of a semi objective survey, please post the url. My bike is a low rev, 500cc, I-twin, if this makes any difference.

I live in a rural area and don't have access to most of the retail chain stores and would like to use a well known/good synthetic oil that is available at a super walmart, etc... I have not changed my oil since I bought it due to crappy riding weather/ low miles-seat time. Its still coming up very soon.

I never had a new bike before so I'm being a bit paranoid.

Just kidding....I use dino but well I couldnt resist.

For what it's worth, Mobil 1 oil kept its protective qualities just as long as Castrol GTX (dino) did in my '04 Honda 599. If you're truly paranoid about your bike's oil, have it sampled every oil change by Blackstone Labs. It's saved me money on oil changes by telling me exactly how far I can go between oil changes.

I've been getting Amsoil shipped by the case. Yes. Really.

No need to go to a store. UPS delivers it. I've been happy with the product so far. I get no hassles about becoming a 'dealer' or whatever they call it (I could save more money if I did go there...)

This is what I now use in my bike:




Fully-synthetic 10w40 which is non energy-conserving (no friction modifiers) and is available off-the-shelf at Wal-Mart for just $23.00 per 5-quart jug.

Camera wanted to use flash which was screwing up the shot, so I switched to manual mode and apparantly lost more than just the flash.

On the Mobil 1, I thought it had to say something on how its the motorcycle type and not the Mobil 1 for automotive? See http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/Mot ... aspx#FAQs5

The pics above look like regular Mobil 1 as best I can tell. How do you tell the difference then between the two types of Mobil 1?

API SL rating can be considered energy conserving without the label at the bottom of the donut.
