Thanks to all the stories I have read online about guys/gals getting hit from behind and the strategy to try and avoid.

It is real. I was in the cage and stopped at a crosswalk for some kids going to school.

next thing i see this car barreling down on me starts to close in fast and skid to the right.

I saw this in my rearview and gunned it. He missed. fortunately the smart kids did not go into the crosswalk before a car going the other direction stopped. If they had and if the guy behind had hit me I would have hit the kids for sure. Not good to hit kids on their way to school. 5oclock news material.

He pulled over apologized was shaken up - he knew he f###kd up.

Now I will think twice about stopping for someone in a crosswalk on a downhill, in the rain. But for sure if I am on the bike stopped, I will have it in first, be looking in my rear view and already have a plan. Well I hope I will.

This dude wasn't on a cell phone - he was just not paying attention. And probably wasn't thinking someone would actually stop for people waitin to cross the road.

Thankfully, it's never happened to me - but my sister was in quite a bad accident of this nature some time ago. Thankfully no major injuries occured.

I now have the habit of keeping a constant watch beind me on approaching a junction, and whilst aiting at one - just in case....

I'm just getting set up to begin riding. However, I have always watched my rearview mirror (car) while stopping. I've learned to leave a car length between me and the car in front in case crazy donkey behind can't stop. Then theres a little cushion of space. I also practice the Left, Center, Right rule at all intersections. Which basically goes like this: Look to the left first....thats where you may get hit first from somone running the red. Center next....thats where your second risk of a hit is because of crazy donkey making a left in front of you. and lastly right....this is the last spot to get hit from crazy donkey running the red while your at the end of your intersection crossing. Just some food for thought
