I began riding on a '99 Ninja 250. It has been a little over a year since I first began riding. I am beginning to feel that my bike is a too small for me. I have been told that jumping into a bigger bike(I am looking at a 600) too soon or off the bat can be dangerous. I am wanting to know if it is the right time for me to upgrade or do I need more time? I enjoy riding alot and do not want to jump into anything that I wouldn't be able to control.

What you are experiencing is more common than not.
If you feel confident in your riding, by all means upgrade. Just be sure to take it easy and get to know your new ride. Your confidence on your new bike will grow as it did with the smaller cc's.
Ride safe and don't be stupid.

Thanks for the tip. I am going to ride a friends CBR 600 and see how it feels before I make a decision.

i would venture to say that fact that you're asking other people whether the time is right to upgrade suggests that it's not....

you'll know when you're ready...

Please be careful. Remember the 250 take a fairly huge throttle twist to get it to really go and I'm sure other bike throttles are a lot more sensitive so take it easy.

I counter with- maybe that's when he begins to realize that he's ready to look into moving on.

Once you have good technique down, are comfy on your bike and feel ready to move on- you can. Just be extra careful starting on any new bike as they all handle differently in throttle response, steering sensitivity, balance, and in all different weather conditions

Keep in mind that the CBR600 is fairly tame up until about 7k rpm..then it hits its powerband and shoots away.

what?? he realizes he's ready to move on when he starts asking other people if he's ready?? i don't think so... to me, by asking the question, he's not 100% sure he's ready to move on... probably a good sign he shouldn't move on...

again, he'll know when he's ready - he won't need to ask other people if he's ready...

Or he's a cautious guy and is looking to others to see if he needs a reality check rather than just going off all bullheaded. It can be flipped either way.

maybe if he's looking to others to see if he needs a reality check, then he should ask people that know him in reality - not on some forum on the internet. how can we evaluate his abilities and tell him he's ready to upgrade??

i don't know him personally - i don't have any clue as to his riding abilities... he's asking if he is ready to upgrade his ride... by asking the question, he's showing, or at least i'm interpreting, that he's not 100% confident in his riding ability. based on that little information, i would rather err on the side of telling him that he's not ready...
