Yesterday i bought a 1999 Kawasaki Ninja 250CC 13,200 miles clean as heck. Got the work shop manuals, helmet , bike cover, tank saddle bag, Spider web bungie. Great the engine wont run!! The previous owner said it just quit, And will not turn over,at the end of last season this spring he took a try at starting again nouck got a new battery still no good. When i looked at it I hit starter nothing! The PO has no mechanical skills his grand dad helped him put the new battery in. He called a shop and they quoted ther labor rate and that scared him so he decided to sell it !! I got all the extra stuff and the bike very clean Kaw green. For $550.00 Now lets get this baby fired up and running! where to start frist Guys? What do you think Ideas Suggestions welcome. Thanks

first things first:

Before you look at anything else on the bike to try to solve the problem, check to make sure all the fuses are good. It could be something as simple as a blown fuse, in which case you got yourself a hell of a deal.

If all the fuses are good, check to make sure all the ground wires have a good clean connection.

Thanks Guys

I brought the bike home sat. and started on it right away Ist checked all fuses cleaned battery terminal connections lucky for me i got the Kawsali factory repair manuals with it. so I do have lights but now sure if I have enough juice to kick in the starter I may try to jump it tomorrow and see what that does. So far very happy is in great shape for A 1999 13, 200 miles now if i can just get it to start. I may take the starter off and see what its doing If you have any Ideas please lets hear themmm thanks Moses

When you press the starter button, does the engine turn over but not start?

Or does the bike go click click click click click click?

Or does it make one click?

SO the starter doesn't do anything? If so, make sure it's getting current. If not- try to source one on ebay.

If the starts does work and the engine just isn't firing check these:

put it in 6th gear and see if you can turn teh wheel then. Very hard to turn by hand in first.

IF that works, get a compression gauge and check compression, compare to factory manual

If that's ok check spark

If that's fine, clean the carbs and change your fuel out. This is the most likely culprit in my mind for a bike that was put away running and came out of storage not running- so maybe start here.
