Hey everyone
Im a 21 year old full time student. I currently do not have a motorcycle, but intend on purchasing one. I am taking a course at FDU in June. I have been on bikes, but I have never driven one. I have my permit (obviously), and I was looking at the Suzuki SV650, because I was told thats a good bike to start out on and you wont get bored with it. Any info is appreciated. Thank you

Chris

:welcome5: Good for you on taking a riding course. The SV650 is one of the "grey area" beginner bikes on the upper end of what's recommended. Don't forget to save money for all the safety gear and insurance. You'll probably want to pick up some saddlebags eventually but, for now, you could strap a backpack to the pillion seat to get the books off your back when riding.

Have Fun and Stay Safe!

I read a lot about the Suzuki GS500F. Nice looking bike and not expensive at all.

Course that SV650 is really hot looking IMO.. and only about 16HP more than the GS500F ;)

Check out the Beginner's Guide. There are also stickies and the Learn To Ride A Motorcycle page which is now downloadable in PDF format (Created and maintained by Dragonhawk). You'll find a list of beginner friendly bikes on Dragonhawk's site. Go to a variety of dealers and sit on all kinds of different motorcycles. Even if you don’t think you’d like the ride when you look at it. I was dead set on one riding style when I started and ended up buying a different type. You may surprise yourself as well.

In addition to the beginners guide you should give us any special needs like travel to and from work/school and how long etc... or just for fun and curves.

Thanks...I have to read and print those all out. All the dealers I went too are pushing the SV650, I have to read all that info that was posted though.

I want this bike for fun, to take on a few motorcycle runs for cancer foundations, to ride around in the nice weather. a road trip or two a summer, nothing huge, nothing daring, but it wont be my daily driver so I'd like something that has a second seat, and that i wont get bored with power wise.

Welcome to the site, Chris. I think you'll find the 70 horsepower of the SV650 plenty entertaining for your first year of motorcycling. I doubt you'll get bored with it. Good luck with your course and first bike purchase.
