Second Bike, Used or Finance?

well, its not gonna be too soon, but Im really learning to handle my bike a lot better, and I can take advantage of most of its power. (04 ninja 250)

Im still having a ton of fun, and riding safely. But I know eventually Id like to move up to a cbr600. (Wanted the f4i, but they cancelled it :( ). I was just wondering, for you guys, on your later bikes (Probably my last) do you recommend used or just going for a new one since your fairly competent. I like the idea of financing to get it sooner, but im still a student, so that kind of debt is real significant, and im paying for school too.

As a student, try not to finance.

As for buying new or used, that is really up to you and what you can afford and what you can afford to replace or fix.

I purchased a new bike, new rider, had my nice slow speed wreck, replaced and repaired everything brushed myself off and kept going. A few years ago that small bit of damage would have been much more significant and more then my pocket could bare.

Your next bike will probably not be your last, anymore then most of us buy one car and never get another one. Sure some do but most don't. But buying what you can afford is rather important now.

Look for a used F4i. It is a lot better for the street than the 600rr. Much more comfortable, a little less peaky, etc.

While you are a student, try not to pile up the debt too much. You will have a lot to pay back when you get out of school, and you won't be happy that a lot of your money is going to stuff that you already got use out of. (not just talking about motorcycles here)

Definitely try to get through college with as little debt as possible!

+1 I'm finally making a reasonable wedge now, and don't see much of it.

I just can't put into words, how much that feeling sucks

It sucks when your out of college and get a nice job. Then about 6 months later realize you'll be paying for years on a experience that is over and still have to live in the mean time. That's the tickets price to success though.

Including a bike, better a beater that runs well with no payment, than a nice bike that will be taking money out of your future when you'll be more straped for money. In U.S. many students gets payment terms that may not start till after you graduate, that's why it may seem you can afford it now.

Just my 2 cents as you know your money situation better than any of us.

You've been riding that Ninja for 3 whole weeks now? Relax. You've got plenty of time to worry about what the next bike will be. Doing some thinking now about how you'll pay for the future bike is a good thing.

I'd recommend that you start putting money away for it now. When you're ready to buy, the stored cash will allow you to get a recent used one outright, or at the very least, allow you to put a big chunk down on a new one. Thereby minimizing the amount you'd have to finance.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think your second bike would be your last?

yea dude...definately don't finance any large amount...i am making payments on my truck...280 a month...it's hard...im a student as well and i've paid for my schooling so i feel the pain right now...i would definately not recommend financing unless you have a job that gives you a bit of financial buffer after payment amounts

Thanks for all of your responses, I really appreciate them!

Like I said, haha Im still loving my little ninja, and will be for some time, I just dont have too many alternatives to the freeway to get to a lot of places, and while its got plenty of power for now, im thinking in the future I might just want that little more bit of juice.

The reason I think my second bike will probably be my last, is just because Im by no means a racer or anything, and it seems like a 600 will be more power than I ever need, I understand though that im just a noob who may be overthinking things

ive got a 650 (though not a sportbike) and I want to upgrade but then again ive been riding just shy of 1 year. I still dont know anything :D. As others have said I would love to buy the Ducati I want and I can get financed for it but there is no way im gonna finance what people consider "toys". Finance is for things you need like a roof over your head not for toys/luxaries/things that are not needed for life.

Your riding style or interst may change.

I am looking for a nice sport tourer next. But I also kinda want a duel sport. You may just find a prettier bike a few years down the road. Endless options.
