hey guys,
my bike is a used 400 yamaha maxim. sweet ride so far (beginner ;) anyway i was able to replace the side blinker on the front (surprisingly easy enough as im a tech nerd and not a mechanic) but there is another thing i need to do

the passanger side foot peg was 'snapped' off before i bought it. i went to the junk yard and grabbed the same kind of peg i need, but it seems as if the actual Bolt is weilded on the frame where would attach it.

(this makin any sense? hah sorry)

anyway, is it customary to have these weilded on? is drilling it out the best way? (then just getting a new generic bolt on the back)

thanks for your help. ill answer any questions if this is too vague

If you could provide a picture, we could make much more sense of it.
Have you checked the other passenger peg? Try taking it off, if you can, then it was not originally welded. I don't think bolts are ever welded to any stock bike.
If you cant tell, look for any irregularities other than clean threads going along the shaft of the bolt. It could have also been welded on if the bike was dropped from the previous owner.

I doubt the peg or bolt were welded. Pegs break _rather_ easily, so as not to ruin your frame or drag you to the ground when they contact the pavement.

Check out an old post/thread of mine regarding junkyard repairs. Some funny stuff:
