Wish me luck.... (first extended trip)

Well, today, I'm going on my first extended ride....... 60 miles!

I know, I know. To most, it doesn't seem far; but I'm going from one side of the valley to the other. Anyone who's been here for any amount of time knows that it will be an undertaking. And, it will take around 2 hours since I'm not taking the freeways (promised Mom: no freeways first 6 months).

I got my earbuds for road noise, change of clothes for warmer or cooler weather, and a cell phone in case I need Mommy.

Anything else I need? What were your experiences?

Good Luck! I've done quite a few 400-500 mile days on GS500s so I know your bike can make it.

Maybe you should bring a spare tire with you just in case you wear all the tread off your current one.

Just kidding.

I think you will be good to go with what you got, though at some point you should get a tire plug kit to keep on the bike at all times.

Just have fun, and don't worry, everyone has to build up the physical ability to ride for extended periods.

i have a first aid kit i keep with my bike...i would assume thats a good thing...

I suppose in Arizona you don't have to worry about rain....but here we would never leave home without rain gear in our bags.

Thanks for the ideas guys and gals....

I ended up doing a total of close to 200 miles yesterday! And the pain in my a$$, back, neck, and wrists can attest to that....

I had fun doing it, but next time I'm gonna take the freeways for sure.

Freeways are easier, but you'll most likely find them far less fun. The soreness is just due to you not being used to a new posture, and your weight being distributed differently, you'll get used to it very quickly the longer rides you do.

I recommend you stick to your mum's advice, you'll enjoy it more.

You should tell you're mom that it's a lot safer on the freeway if you're going from one side of town to the other. It takes me an hour to do that running 70 mph on the freeway. I can't imagine what it must have been like on the surface streets the whole way. My clutch hand would be killing me.
