So, how does one go about bargaining with a motorcycle dealer? I would like to get a bike soon but I don't want to pay the tag price. So bone up on bluebook prices?

You go in, point at a bike and say, "I'll give you $10 for it."

He will laugh at you, then you say, "okay what's your counter offer?"

He will say, "Look at the tag."

"I can't swing the tag... I'll give you $11."

Whenever my dad and I go to buy a car or something pricey, the first thing he says is, "What is the best price". From there the price all goes down hill.

decide on what you are willing to pay... depending on the difference between that and the tag, you may want to start lower and negotiate to middle ground. or just be honest and tell them what you're willing to pay, don't budge and see what they can do to bring the price down...

Ya wait until the right time of year. This ain't the right time of year. Late fall is the right time of year, the dealers are facing up to having their money tied up for another winter in an unsold bike.

Good luck, tho', sometimes ya can get lucky....

I have found that most places around Seattle give a 10% discount for new riders that take the safety course.

Wow things must be different in NY, 07 v-star classic- list (around) 9k
OTD price 8,200- 1k in yamaha free accesories and free labor plus free delivery (middle of winter, buffalo-snow) I live 30 miles from the dealer.

But there are a lot of yamaha dealers near me, about 5/6 all within a 30 minute ride. They compete for the most part here

Decide what bike(s) you want. Then go find the specific Internet forum for that make/model and ask there.

Same as all other bargaining.

See what they want.
determine what you will pay.
Talk poop.
See what happens.
(timing does help and this aint the time as was noted)

Good luck
