possible fork problem

my nephew accidentally backed straight into my 01 suzuki bandit 1200 over the weekend pushing it back about 18 inches 
(thankfully, it dodn't fall over!) At first, I thought he only cracked the front fender, but once I started riding, I noticed the front brakes were rubbing, when I know for sure they weren't rubbing before. My guess is the forks are bent, so is there an easy way to check them, or should I just take it to a garage?
