Hey GALS!!

Let's vote on whether or not the Ladies Lounge should be a members-only forum (access would only be granted for those who are approved, as with the "Kawasaki" forums and such).

Also, please use this thread to add any input to the idea.

Well, I voted YES.

Reason being, I'm tired of the negative and/or useless commentary offered by some of the guy members here. It doesn't happen a lot, and many times the guys have helpful comments to make. But it only takes one really nasty comment to drown out any good feeling that we usually take from this forum.

My feeling is that if there's a topic that could benefit from input from the entire community, then that topic could be posted somewhere in the general forums. But if there are topics that a gal wants to keep just between gals, there would be a safer place in which to do that.

I voted yes for ya even though I'm not a gal. It sounds like a good idea. I know I've posted in here a few times unintentionally simply because I didn't pay attention. I normally just click the "new posts since last visit" and don't generally look at where the post is located.

Would guys be allowed to be members?

I often read the forum because it's interesting and there's stuff that I relay to my girlfriend, who loves to ride as a passenger but isn't all that interested in having a bike or reading the forum.

It seems like it might be workable to allow guys to join on certain conditions and boot em out if they make rude comments..

I'm not sure that I have the NEED to post in here, but there are times I want to know things such as what gear/brand do you recommend for women or certain circumstances that male riders don't encounter. I like jonnythan's idea- if someone is abusive of their priviledge kick em out.

Well, it seems that Mike would like to leave the forum public so that women who are perusing the site will know that there is a forum here for them, should they decide to join in.

Again, most guys are friendly and respectful when they pop in here, but others... they end up killing a thread or making us feel uncomfortable in our own home. It would be like going into the "Harley" forum and then bashing Harleys. Difference is... the Harley forum is protected proactively, where in this forum we can only address disrespectful posts retroactively.

Can a hack be placed on the forum allowing you to ban certain members? I'd talk to mike to see if it's possible.

I understand what you're saying - I just don't see the point then. It might as well stay public.

Maybe Storysunfolding's idea of banning certain members might work. I would think though that a simple warning should suffice for most members, so even a banning might not be necessary. It's kind of like firing someone from a job - you'd like to be able to see if they can straighten up before giving them the "boot".

So I don't know - it's maybe best to just leave things as they are and try to deal with trouble makers as they come.

Just like child predators, its easy enough to fake the source ip and create a alternate persona and get in here.

Do you really want to create a atmosphere like that or have it a bit more clear idea that it is a guy or not?

When I log in, I just check the subjects of new posts, not what forum it came from. Otherwise, I'd miss many good posts that were posted in the wrong forum. Unless pointed out, I don't pay attention. Subject is the key for me.

I didn't vote as you should get want you want within reason, especially those that help sponsor the site. Besides other than safety equipment fitting different (coats, pants, boots) I don't see any differences. Seat issues we all have to one degree or another, long hair and helmets same thing. There are asres are on both sides of the aisle. But some people will always want some sort of walls. I believe in openness.

I wonder if it's possible to make the forum read-only except to members of a certain group.

Then it would be visible to everyone, but you'd need to join the group to post.
